This year’s Old Mutual Soweto Marathon will start and finish at FNB Stadium, organisers confirmed on Thursday, at the launch of the annual 42km race to be held on November 6.
Despite shifting the venue from Nasrec, however, the route would again pass numerous heritage sites in the historic township, including Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Walter Sisulu Square, the Regina Mundi Catholic Church, Morris Isaacson High School, Vilakazi Street and the Hector Pieterson Memorial.
A total of 25 000 runners were expected to take part in the three races on offer, with the event incorporating 10km and 21km distances.
Online entries would be taken at www.sowetomarathon.com, with entries closing at midnight on September 5 or once each distance had reached its capacity.
The fields would be limited to 9 000 (42km), 8 000 (21km) and 8 000 (10km) participants.
